Abstract- Autumn

2014~ will be a year that my creative energy will not be wasted on pointless endeavors.

Abstract Autumn isn't a name for this painting, it's really a description of the theme.

The inspiration came from a photograph of a magnolia tree I took with an old 35mm camera.
Standing at the base and looking up into this ancient-southern belle's limbs, I recall my childhood... I spent many a Summer climbing a tree just like this one.

Bihm Family Portrait (Pencil Sketch)

The Bihm Family

 Inspiration photo

A family picture taken back in the day when my dad could still wear short pants.(LOL) My father, Rev. F.W. Bihm Sr (Standing on the far Right) no longer has that head full of blond hair and in fact has very little hair at all. (LOVE you daddy!) My grandfather is wearing a cool fedora while holding his daughter Jean. The other two little boys are (R-L) Joe Jr and Arnold. The only two still living that are pictured here are my father and my Aunt Jean.

This is actually a bad copy (or a copy of a copy) of the original picture which was obviously damaged at some point. (Notice the big yellow blob in the upper right corner) When the picture was taken the light was in the worse possible place (the sun was in their eyes) which caused the subjects to squent (not the most pleasant of facial expressions)... not to mention the blurry features with little or no details to speak of, but I still love this picture, and its one of our family favorites. All that being said it made this photograph a real challenge to draw.

The Sketch

This is the finished drawing... and as always I could pick it apart for every flaw...but in the end I must admit to being happy with the finished sketch. The truth is I'm not into photo-realism because as an artist it’s more about interpretation. If you want an exact copy go buy a copy machine and get busy. (LOL)

This is a gift to my Aunt Jean~ Happy Mothers' Day!

Soulful Nesting

Taking a tour of my bedroom today and decided to share with y'all.
~

Love this wonderful- light color of blue on my walls, frames all the heavy dark furniture with light.

Another view of my room, did I say my furniture was heavy? (Yes, yes I did...lol)

My dresser area, which includes my printer...my home office is located in my bedroom... I love my little lamps, they give off a soft glow that makes the whole room feel like a haven.

My home office space, where I spend way to much time...another small lamp that was a gift- i'm a lamp-nut.

One of my favorite things is this collection of old family photos, memories of my wonderful parents and grandparents.

It's all in the small details, like this little wood "R", made by my son-Jacob in wood shop...LOVE!

Inspired by the colors in this wool rug.

October is here!

Another year has come and will soon be over. Time seems to really fly by, way to fast, these days.  It only seems like a short while ago that I was making my daughters costume for last year. Here we are again...so soon!

Brianna Rich~ age 12yro

This year it's all about Katy Perry's video- California Gurlz... the G-rated version. LOL

She doesn't know the words to the song, but she makes up for it w/ enthusiasm.

I cheated this year, instead of sewing everything from scratch, I found an old prom dress and used it as a base for the skirt. I also found a t-shirt w/ the cupcake theme we were going for...it's all about the cupcakes.

 Gurlz Rule!

The head band was created w/ air-dry clay... a girl has to have her cupcake head gear.

I saved myself a lot of labor in creating her costume this year, but we still had a blast working on it together. She LOVES it and the smile is worth it in the end.
